Grisaille

For the painting on glass the method is similar to that of the common painting on canvas, but considering the glass impermeability.

This technique is used to obtain shades and nuances and makes use of a dark brown glass enamel, called grisaille, that is applied with special brushes.

Once painted, the glass is heated in a furnace so to make painting uniform and definitive. Only if the heating is made according to the precise directions of skilled artisans, the painting on glass can be completely resistant over the time.
